LEAN MANUFACTURING

All our facilities practice this core principle. Our team of LEAN CHAMPIONS led a company-wide effort in training of lean principles and implementation of best practices throughout production and administration.

We created a visual workplace on our production floor, to measure OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) at machine centers. We also utilize Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events to cut waste and cost from our processes.

This benefits our customers with lower costs through faster, more efficient production processes.

ECO-FRIENDLY

We care about our environment and are committed to it by obtaining raw materials from sources that use legal harvesting methods without endangering habitats: ¾ of that material originates from mills that combine perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the long-term protection of wildlife, soil, and water.

We also implemented a waste-water treatment program that removes pigments from the water used in our production processes before it is returned to public water treatment centers, possibly cleaner that we received it.

OUR HISTORY

BCI was founded in 1961 by James C. Shaw, and began operating in a 10,000 SF plant near the Fox River in Batavia, IL. In 1979 it relocated to a Batavia area industrial park where its current headquarters is located. Multiple expansions have increased its size to 500,000 SF in four Illinois facilities located in Batavia, Bedford Park and Itasca. Second generation Shaw family brothers continue to own and manage the Company, one of the largest independent sheet plants in the Midwest.
